Since the Working Holiday (WH) system was established between Japan and Australia in December 1980, the number of Japanese WH makers to Australia has increased from mere 884 in 1981 to over 15,000 in the year 2000. As the eligible age for the WH system now includes those up to 30 years old, the wider age groups are utilising the WH system. As a result the total number of Japanese WH makers to Australia over the years has exceeded 150,000.
While the number of WH makers, students and long term visitors increased, the more of them often face various difficulties such as the language and cultural difference during their stay in Australia. Some also express their concerns in finding a suitable lifestyle as they would have wished.
Oroten Association Inc. understands the concerns
and current situation surrounding the WH makers, students and long term
visitors. Our aim is to encourage and support their everyday life in Australia
so that they could be more content during their stay.
Oroten Association Inc. is based on the experience
and feedback from publishing the monthly magazine “OroTen (=Orokamono
Tengoku)” which has been widely accepted among the WH makers and students
in the past four years.
“OroTen” was published and distributed in Australia as a free monthly magazine from 1998 to 2000. From then on “OroTen” has become the annual guidebook called “OroTen De Go” and been sold in Australia and Japan.
Coinciding with the 2003/2004 edition of “OroTen
De Go” guidebook, Oroten Association Inc. has been established as NPA
in order to provide better support to the WH makers, students and long
term visitors to Australia. Oroten Association Inc. will continue the path
of “OroTen” magazine through the publication of the annual guidebook
“OroTen De Go”as well as providing valuable and useful information for
those in need.
